Soft Tissue Laser Therapy

Painless and completely non-invasive; Laser Therapy directly targets areas of inflammation stimulating tissue repair.

Laser therapy uses an infra-red laser to stimulate tissue repair and healing in the inflamed or injured areas. It does this by increasing microcirculation of the blood flow, promotes anti-inflammation, relieves pain, and increases the speed and tensile strength of tissue repair and regeneration. In addition, laser therapy also aids in the accelerated healing of skin ulcerations, for example diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs).

How does it work?

Our laser uses a specific wavelength of light in the infra red spectrum of light that is invisible to the naked eye. Our diode laser emits the light through an optical cable and out through various different sized hand pieces, to target the specific area of injury or concern.

The Podiatrist will assess your needs and chose the correct hand piece and dosage. Dosage is measured in Joules of energy over time. Depending on the size of the area, or if you need multiple areas treated, the time can vary.

There are three key mechanisms of action.

  1. Anti-inflammatory: the laser stimulates blood flow and lymphatic drainage by improving oxygen and nutrition in the affected area(s). Also, waste products are removed. This causes a reduction in swelling and scar tissue, and accelerates healing of the tissue.
  2. Repairs damaged tissue: regenerates skin, muscle, tendons, ligament, cartilage, blood vessels and nerves.

  3. Pain relief: The anti-inflammatory and accelerated tissue healing reduces pain. In addition, the laser increases the release of endorphins and serotonin levels.
