We are pleased to introduce a new class format to Back in Motion Balnarring. We will be commencing functional strength classes from December 2020.
The classes are designed around classical strength training principals albeit tailored to individuals recovering from injuries such as low back pain, knee shoulder or neck pain etc. Necessary manual therapy should be completed before commencing the classes as well as a free 20 minute assessment.
The exercises will be tailored to be pain free and safe. The goals of the program are to increase strength through increased muscle mass, and improve movement quality through repetition and practice of functional movements performed against resistance such as squatting and lifting.
Added benefits from the program will be increased flexibility, bone density, and there are multiple well documented health benefits from strength training. Some of the other physical and mental benefits that can be achieved through resistenance training include*:
- Improved muscle strength and tone – to protect your joints from injury
- Maintaining balance, which can help you remain independent as you age
- Weight management and increased muscle-to-fat ratio – as you gain muscle, your body burns more kilojoules when at rest
- May help reduce or prevent cognitive decline in older people
- Greater stamina – as you grow stronger, you won’t get tired as easily
- Prevention or control of chronic conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, arthritis, back pain, depression and obesity
- Pain management
- Improved mobility and balance
- Improved posture
- Decreased risk of injury
- Increased strength and reduced risk of osteoporosis
