WHAT IS GLA:D?
Good Living with osteoArthritis: Denmark (GLA:D) is a program designed for those with hip or knee symptoms to improve their function and quality of life. It was created by Danish researchers in 2014 as physiotherapists saw there were numerous joint replacements occurring that could have been prevented with other conservative measures.
You do not need to have a diagnosis of arthritis or osteoarthritis to benefit from our GLA:D program!
We have had clients who no pain at all join to learn how they could prevent any future issues, as well as those who use it for rehabilitation before and after surgery unrelated to osteoarthritis.
WHAT DOES THE PROGRAM ENTAIL?
- 7-week education and exercise program
- Sessions twice a week run by GLA:D trained physiotherapist, Shayne Richter
- A focus on functional goals, not pain
- Individualised to you, your goals and your abilities
- For anyone with hip and knee pain, not just osteoarthritis
The program is claimable through your private health fund so all you pay is the gap fee! We also accept EPC plans (initial consultation only) and DVA Veteran referrals.
EXERCISES
Why can’t I do the exercises at home? Why do I need to attend a class?
It’s true, you can exercise at home however the GLA:D program focuses on controlled movement; it contains specific exercises designed for those suffering with hip or knee pain. You will also learn what types of movement and exercises you should be avoiding and the correct dosage for you. At the end of the program, you will have the knowledge and program set up so you can continue at home.
WHAT CAN GLA:D DO FOR ME?
- Reduce the use of joint medication/pain killers
- Reduces pain in the Australian population by 36%
- Less time off work and less sick leave
- Increased levels of physical activity 12 months after starting the program
- Reduce the chance of having to take the route of surgery
We offer free information sessions throughout the year if you have any questions we haven't answered today. To find out when our next free information session is, call (08) 8296 1755 or email brighton@backinmotion.com.au.
