Back In Motion Hawthorn Philosophy – Results 4 Life

At Back In Motion Hawthorn, we are Physiotherapists that don’t just treat pain, and we don’t just treat injuries. Our focus is to help our clients achieve better health. We are:

  • Client Focussed
  • Holistic
  • Preventative
  • Wellness and Health Promoting
Typical Client Pathway

Our typical client pathway looks like this:

  1. Diagnosis
  2. Symptomatic Care
  3. Correction of Biomechanics of injured body part + rest of body
  4. Health and Wellness Exercise and Coaching.

We have a collaborative approach, and plan out our client’s pathway by finding out what they really want, educate them about what they need to change to achieve this, and then come up with a plan that suits their budget and their life.

1.Diagnosis

For real, long term outcomes, we diagnose three things:

  • Pathoanatomy – has tissue broken down, and if so, by how much?
  • Movement Dysfunction – do faulty movement patterns or weaknesses exist?
  • Psychosocial Factors – do Psychosocial Factors exist that hinder a return to full, pain-free function and better health?
2.Symptomatic Care

We utilize:

  • Manual therapy
  • Education
  • Self-treatment techniques – we empower our clients
3.Correction of Biomechanics

Whether tissue has broken down, or mechanical stress alone without tissue breakdown is causing pain, we diagnose and correct faulty movement patterns and re-train sustained postural positions to eliminate mechanical loading. We don’t just do this for the injured body part, but the whole body. This is not only relevant to unload nociceptive tissue, it prevents future injuries to other body parts at the same time.

We then provide exercises to strengthen the body. This increases load tolerance before tissue breakdown occurs, thus giving the client greater capacity for using their body in life before they hit a point of tissue stress or failure and hence pain.

4.Health and Wellness Exercise and Coaching

Because inactivity is a major contributing factor to chronic disease, and as exercise both addresses this problem and has major mental health benefits, we don’t stop at addressing a client’s injury. We encourage ongoing exercise, and build activity into our client’s lives. Not only do we provide fun and safe ongoing Health and Wellness exercise sessions at our clinic, we “Coach” clients to find and participate in whatever ever form of exercise is going to be enjoyable and achievable for them long term with external providers.

This is why we call our Philosophy “Results 4 Life”. Our focus on is real, lasting, results, that lead to a happier and healthier life.
