Move around during this lockdown! James explains the importance of moving our shoulders, have a look!

“One of the most common complaints we have had in the clinic during the first lockdown was patients presenting with sore and stiff shoulders. A large component of this is postural related. When sitting at a computer with less than ideal workplace setups, the muscles at the front of our body begin to stiffen and tighten. Muscles like our pecs, biceps and serratus anterior. These muscles attach to the arm and pull it forwards when tightened. This causes an increased load on our shoulder rotator cuff tendons, which in turn will generate pain.

There are a few things that can help alleviate this such as:

• Changing position every half our

• Stretching the affected muscles

• Resistance exercises targeting the back muscles

• Massage and spikey ball work

Although gyms are closed and training options are limited, we are still open and running classes. Our group Pilates/functional weights classes are the perfect opportunity to work these weak back muscles and reduce shoulder pain. If you are interested in our classes or had any queries in regards to shoulder pain, please contact the clinic on the information provided and book in a consult today.”
