Reducing falls in the older population

Published: May 3, 2021

In March 2021 the Australian Government released the Final Report of the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety. The report identified the need for preventing falls in the older population to ensure quality of life and avoid serious health complications. Falls are one of the causes of preventable death in residential aged care, and can be caused by decreases in strength, balance, coordination, mobility, and function.

Physiotherapists have a critical role in helping reduce the occurrence of falls and improve lives by promoting activity and mobility. Our team at Back in Motion Prospect are highly skilled in gaining and maintaining mobility, and help our clients increase confidence in their movement. We work with our clients to develop an individual supervised exercise program to be completed in one of our exercise classes during the week. With regular attendance to the exercise classes, our clients can maintain or improve their current level of mobility and feel more confident when in the community.

If you think an exercise class would benefit you, or you have noticed a reduction in confidence when walking, give our clinic a call on 8269 3800 to book an appointment with one of our physiotherapists. They can discuss the many options and exercise styles we cater for at Back in Motion Prospect and help you improve your quality of life.
