We host students!
We were all there at one point – and we valued the opportunity to see what it was like to shadow experienced physiotherapists and learn all about clinical practice. As such, we love the extend the same opportunity to current students in order the help them develop into great clinicians themselves. Students often come from local universities, such as La Trobe, Melbourne, Monash and Swinburne and are at different stages of their learning.
Of course, we will always be asking consent from patients. There is no expectation that patients have to accept, and patients can certainly decline. They may ask questions of you and may help with exercises in the gym, and they may do some hands on work (but it is noted and agreed beforehand with close supervision from the physiotherapist). Students will often practice on the rest of the physio team in mentoring sessions in order to help build their skills!
Feedback from students is always so appreciative of patients for letting them observe and we really appreciate it from out patients as well!
