Lipoedema Awareness Month
Did you know that June is lipoedema awareness month?
During June, Lipoedema Australia is raising awareness for lipoedema in order create better understanding of this chronic condition.
What is lipoedema?
- Lipoedema is a chronic condition that causes an abnormal buildup of fat and connective tissue, usually around the hips, legs and arms.
- It is different to lymphoedema and general weight gain, and symptoms can include pain, swelling and bruising.
- Lipoedema is often more noticeable after hormonal changes such as puberty, pregnancy and menopause.
- Managing lipoedema is a combination of physiotherapy, compression garments or pumps, exercise, diet and potentially surgery.
If you would like more information, please visit the Lipoedema Australia website or call our clinic and ask for a Lipoedema Assessment.
