LYMPHOEDEMA
What is Lymphoedema?
Lymphoedema is a type of swelling caused by a blockage or impairment in the lymphatic system. Lymphoedema can often occur as a result of lymph node removal or radiation treatment as part of cancer treatment.
Lymphoedema can present as mild, moderate or severe. In mild cases, a person may feel heaviness or tightness. In moderate or severe cases, this sensation may then cause further pain and uncontrolled swelling.
Treatment
Is it important to assess each case individually for the correct treatment, however treatment will usually involve lifestyle modification, exercises and compression. Lymphatic drainage may also be appropriate.
