Ash started with the clinic since 2012 and worked in a variety of roles, including with Melbourne Victory and the 2018 Commonwealth Games. He left to develop further expertise in clinical pilates and rehab and came back to the clinic as our senior physio mentor. Last year, he left again to commence working with surgeons and optimising their surgical techniques with robotic options. He recommenced in the clinic on Saturdays, however with his wife starting full time work again and 2 young ones at home, he has decided to enjoy his weekends with his family. Ash has been an integral part of the clinic for a long period of time and we wish him all the best going forward!

Balance

Our senior physio Kate given some great tips on improving your balance! You have it, you lose it and it is hard to get back. The aim is to keep on top of things and keep you upright. Did you know that falls are the leading cause of admission to nursing homes??? Balance is an important part of health and helps prevent us from falls and enables us to move confidently through different environments and walk on different surfaces. Unfortunately, with certain medical conditions, medications and increasing age our balance can be affected. However, we can preserve and even improve balance! Some basic home exercises can include:

Single Leg Balance

Split Stance Balance

Tightrope/Tandem Walk

Slow Marching

Balance exercises are recommended to be done near a wall or bench for safety while practicing. If you do feel unsafe make an appointment with us online or over the phone to further assess your balance and provide a more tailored program to your individual condition.

Last Thursday was R U OK? Day, an important day to check in, talk, listen and connect with those around us. Although one day can’t make a huge difference, it is a great reminder to check in on the people around us and have some meaningful conversations. Together, we can make a difference, one conversation at a time.
