TELEHEALTH – ONLINE PHYSIO SERVICE NOW UP AND RUNNING!

Published: April 14, 2020

Our doors are still open for face-to-face consults, however if you are unable or choose not to come in, we can now come to you through our Telehealth online physio service! Now available at Back in Motion, all clients can continue treatment or book in a new consultation to address and manage new injuries.

Sessions are conducted using Zoom or Coviu as our video calling platforms and we are offering one-on-one consultations, one-on-one clinical exercise, one-on-one functional strength rehabilitation, as well as small group exercise classes. This means that you can continue to undertake individualised exercise programs from home with minimal equipment and receive expert guidance from our very capable physiotherapists.

So what can be achieved through Telehealth?

  1. Physios can still assess, diagnose and create a treatment plan through careful and detailed questioning and discussion of your injury
  2. Check that exercises are being performed correctly and effectively
  3. Update and progress exercise programs
  4. Discuss new strategies in managing your condition
  5. Touch base for any further questions you may have

Even before the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been a growing consumer demand for access to video-consultation services provided by physiotherapists. Recent research has highlighted the benefits of video consultations, showing that they are safe, cost-effective and well-received by patients, particularly for those living in rural or remote areas or those faced with accessibility barriers due to age or disability. With COVID-19 now limiting much of our movements, Telehealth is more valuable than ever so that we can continue to reach out to our clients to ensure that they remain on track in their road to recovery.

Will my private health insurance cover telehealth sessions?

As per the Australian Physiotherapy Association, private health funds are fast tracking access for members to tele-physiotherapy consultations. Several private health funds will provide coverage for individual physiotherapy Telehealth consultations from Tuesday 14 April 2020 subject to the conditions listed below:

  1. The customer is undergoing an existing course of treatment and the customer has seen the physiotherapist over the past six months, or
  2. For new patients, the tele-physiotherapy service has been recommended by their general practitioner or relevant medical specialist, and
  3. The primary condition being treated is one of:
    • Post orthopaedic surgery rehabilitation (e.g. Total hip or knee replacement)
    • Chronic musculoskeletal condition (e.g. osteoarthritis)
    • Cardiac rehabilitation
    • Pulmonary rehabilitation, or
    • pelvic floor muscle training,
  4. The service is delivered before 30 September 2020, and
  5. The service is undertaken in accordance with Australian Physiotherapy Association guidelines

We recommend that you contact your private health provider to check if insurance covers Telehealth consultations

Are there any other government rebates available to fund telehealth sessions?

Telehealth funding is now available for Medicare care plans (aka. Enhanced Primary Care) through your GP – if you already have one in place, this will be carried over and no further action will be necessary. Please note that there are criteria to be met in order to qualify for an Enhanced Primary Care plan so please speak to your GP for further information on your eligibility for this.

Additionally, telehealth will also be covered under the following categories:

  • NDIS
  • DVA
  • Worksafe

We can offer you short, medium and long consultations to suit your situation, and given the impact that COVID-19 virus is having on all Australians, we are discounting our standard fees for Physio Online appointments to ensure our clients don’t fall behind in their treatment.

For further information and bookings, please feel free to call our clinic on (03) 9878 1919 or make a Telehealth booking through our website link on our home page.
