TELEHEALTH

Telehealth - a new way to see your Physio!

If you need to see a physio but are unable to make in to the practice, then we have an alternative for you. We have launched our Telehealth service, which is a new way to see your physio via an online Physiotherapy consultation.

What Is It?

It's a live video-conferencing technology that allows you to have a video-linked consulation with your chosen physio. Even before the impact of COVID-19, there has been a growing consumer demand for access to video-consultation services provided by physiotherapists. There is now evidence that shows video consultations are cost effective, safe and well-received by patients – especially by those living in rural and remote areas, or who have other forms of access issues due to age or disability. Check out our recent blog on the effectiveness of Telehealth here. https://www.backinmotion.com.au/melbourne-on-collins/news/telehealth-is-up-and-running

Appointments

We can offer you short, medium and long consultations to suit your situation, and given the impact the COVID-19 virus is having on people, we are discounting our standard fees for Physio online appointments to ensure our clients don’t fall behind in their treatment. Our doors are still open, but if you can't come to us we can come to you through Telehealth. This will allow all clients to continue treatment with their Physio of choice, and stay on the road to recovery. The service is undertaken in accordance with Australian Physiotherapy Association guidelines.

What Do I Need?

In essence, all you need is a computer or a smart device with an internet connection such is the wonder of technology! We will send you a link with a secure login and ID to access the private video consultation with your chosen physio. It's that simple. Most Health Insurance companies have come on board with the Telehealth consultations and are now rebating for these sessions. We recommend that you contact your health provider to see if your insurance covers Telehealth consultations to reduce the nasty surprise!

How Do I Book?

You can either ring us on 9602 3332 and chat with our staff to best find a time that suits you. Alternatively, you can book online using the TELEHEALTH option on the home page of this website.

Our Service Offering

Physiotherapy

Whether you have back pain, neck pain, flexibility or mobility issues, our physios at Back In Motion can help resolve your pain and improve the quality of your life.

Find out why physiotherapy is a GP's most recommended health professional today.

What can Back In Motion physio do for me?

We'll use the latest clinical research and physio equipment to develop a personal treatment plan to help you recover for your specific condition.

You don’t need a GP's referral to see a physio, and often we'll work as part of a team to plan and manage treatment for your specific condition or injury.

How will a Back In Motion physio assess my injury?

We'll assess your condition to diagnose the problem and focus on how to help you heal with tangible tools like Results4Life®

What sort of treatments do Back In Motion physios use?

Treatments include:

- Exercise prescription
- Postural analysis and correction
- Soft tissue massage/mobilization
- Dry needling
- Management of lifestyle issues such as desk set up, pillow and gym programs
- Prescription of aids such as crutches, orthotics and braces

What else does Back In Motion offer?

We’re a one-stop shop for allied health, and also offer related health services such as clinical/reformer Clinical Exercise, remedial massage, exercise rehab and more.

We work in partnership with you to identify how we can resolve your pain and condition, and then how to heal you and get you stronger to ensure it does not happen again.

Clinical Exercise

Whether you’re wanting to improve your flexibility, core strength or your posture, Back In Motion offers Clinical Exercise and reformer Pilates facilitated by qualified physios.

Many gyms and exercise studios offer Clinical Exercise these days, but few places offer personalised and tailored programs to help you recover, achieve your goals sooner and help stay injury-free.

Why should I do Clinical Exercise & Pilates at Back In Motion?

Our qualified physios supervise you during class to offer you a safe and effective program.

When you do Clinical Exercise with us, you’re in a smaller class with an individual program designed just for you – so you’ll progress faster and are less likely to get injured.

What equipment is available at Back In Motion?

We offer a range of specialised Pilates equipment, including reformers, trapeze tables and floor-based exercises to help you progress and achieve your health and fitness goals.

Who will benefit the most out of Clinical Exercise & Pilates?

Clinical Exercise can benefit everyone – from the elite athlete wanting to improve their core strength, to a beginner seeking to improve their flexibility and muscle strength.

We recommend all of our Back In Motion clients try Clinical Exercise at least once. Once you see the results and feel the benefits, you'll be hooked!

What are the health benefits of Clinical Exercise & Pilates?

The health benefits of Clinical Exercise include improved flexibility, increased muscle strength and tone, core stability, improved balance, spine stabilisation and improved posture.

Remedial Massage

Whether you’re wanting to loosen tight muscles, soothe your body or simply relax, Back In Motion offers a range of massage services.

There are many places that offer massage these days, but few offer highly-qualified and trained physios with extensive knowledge of the human body to help your body heal.

Why should I have a remedial massage at Back In Motion?

We take a tailored approach, targeting key areas of your body chosen by you and your physio and it’ll be completed in a safe and professional environment.

Our highly-experienced physios have spent more than four years at university learning about human anatomy and biomechanics. We know your body and can identify the causes of aches, pains and soreness, ensuring a better result every time.

What remedial massage services are offered at Back In Motion?

We offer a range of massage services including remedial massage, sports therapy massage and deep tissue massage, so you can benefit from qualified physios and their extensive knowledge of the human body.

What are the benefits of regular remedial massage?

Massage is beneficial to the body in many ways, both physically (tissue manipulation) and emotionally (relaxation). A regular massage can provide check ups with your physio, treat niggles, prevent new injuries/pain and help with maintenance.

Sporting clubs, athletes, and massage devotees see our expert physios and therapists for a reason: because we know your body and can identify the causes of aches, pains, and soreness, ensuring a better result every time.

Custom Orthotics

When a small problem develops in your feet, a subtle change in the way you walk can cause a chain reaction that alters your posture and movement mechanics. The symptom of poor foot mechanics can include localised foot pain, bunions, arch or heel pain, leg or knee pain, hip or back pain – and even neck pain. Custom orthotics have been shown to correct these issues, giving you improved balance, posture, and general wellbeing.

Exercise and Rehab

Whether you have lower back pain, neck pain or a shoulder injury, exercise rehabilitation can help. Our exercise programs can help with increasing fitness, weight loss, injury rehabilitation, endurance training or strengthening, in a safe way that minimises risk of injury.

Our qualified staff use the latest clinical research and physio equipment to develop a personal exercise plan to help you improve flexibility, mobility, and strength.

Semi-Private Clinical Exercise

Once you have completed a prescribed series of one-on-one Clinical Exercise sessions, your physio may recommend you commence semi-private Clinical Exercise classes. These classes have a maximum of five participants. You'll receive guidance and attention from the physiotherapist instructing the class in accordance with your individual Clinical Exercise program. Your program may include a combination of mat and reformer work.

Women’s Health

Women’s Health Physiotherapy is aimed at women at any time of their lives. Our women’s health physios are specially trained at post-graduate level, meaning you will receive the best possible assessment and treatment whatever your concern.

The following conditions are treated by a women’s health physio.

Pre and Post-natal care: any symptoms associated with being pregnant such as back and pelvic pain as well as exercise therapy for safe activity in pregnancy. After you have had your baby we recommend a 6 weeks check with the physiotherapist where they can assess your abdominal muscles, pelvic floor muscles and breathing. This is also the time we can start you back to exercise and get you back to what you love doing!

Urinary and Faecal Incontinence: any leakage from your bladder or bowel can often be treated very successfully with the support of physiotherapy. This may include bladder and bowel training, pelvic floor strengthening, constipation management as well as fluid and dietary advice.

Pelvic organ Prolapse: anyone diagnosed with any type of pelvic organ prolapse should seek the support of a specially trained physiotherapist. Treatment is aimed at managing symptoms in the optimal way as well as getting you back to moving and exercising without the fear of making prolapse any worse. If you are having surgery it is still advisable to have physiotherapy pre and post op to ensure you recover as well as possible.

Pelvic pain: this can be pain anywhere in your pelvis, lower back or hips. Often there is a strong correlation between muscle coordination and strength and the pelvic floor muscles or the abdominal wall. Physiotherapy can help give the correct treatment and exercises. Pelvic pain can also refer to painful intercourse or simply vaginal pain, this too is ideally assessed and treated by a women’s health physiotherapist.

Not all conditions are treated with pelvic floor rehabilitation and exercises and everyone is individually assessed and a treatment plan formulated for them. Our women’s health physiotherapist is passionate about both the health of women and men and believes that anyone can overcome their pelvic health issues with the correct guidance and treatment. We want to empower both men and women so that their incontinence, prolapse or pelvic pain isn’t something they have to suffer with.

Men’s Health

Men’s Health Physiotherapy is aimed at men any time of their lives. Our men’s health physios are specially trained at post-graduate level, meaning you will receive the best possible assessment and treatment whatever your concern.

The following conditions are treated by a men’s health physiotherapist.

Urinary and Faecal incontinence: any leakage from your bladder or bowel can often be treated very successfully with the support of physio. This may include bladder and bowel training, pelvic floor strengthening and constipation strategies and treatment. Urinary incontinence is often a problem after prostate surgery so it is important that men have both pre and post op physio to ensure good pelvic floor muscle strength as well as good bladder and bowel habits.

Erectile dysfunction: Forty percent of West Australian men experience erectile dysfunction at some point in their lives. Pelvic floor physiotherapy is best placed to help manage this through strengthening of the pelvic floor muscles as well as advice surrounding devices like pumps. We also have a focused Shockwave machine which can help treat vascular erectile dysfunction as an adjunct to pelvic floor strengthening. Many people travel internationally for this treatment, but now we have it in Perth.

Pelvic pain: pain anywhere around the pelvis, lower back and hips as well as conditions such as pudendal neuralgia. Pain could also be associated with sexual intercourse such as ejaculatory pain.

Not all conditions are treated with pelvic floor rehabilitation and exercises and everyone is individually assessed and a treatment plan formulated for them. Our men’s health physiotherapist is passionate about the health of men and believes that anyone can overcome their pelvic health issues with the correct guidance and treatment. We want to empower men so that their incontinence or pelvic pain isn’t something they have to suffer with.

GaitScan® Assessment

Back In Motion’s scientific GaitScan® assessment technology allows your physio to closely analyse your foot mechanics. This is done by measuring timing sequences, mapping foot pressure and providing an in-depth visual report that you can take home.

Using GaitScan®, your Back In Motion physiotherapist can then determine whether faulty foot function is the cause of your discomfort and whether custom orthotics will benefit you. If so, the results of your assessment are used to create customer orthotics moulded and manufactured specifically for your needs.

Pelvic Floor and Continence Physiotherapy

Continence and pelvic floor physiotherapy is a specific field of physiotherapy. The focus is on the treatment of pelvic floor related disorders like incontinence and prolapse by restoring muscle function to the pelvic floor. Back In Motion offers discrete treatment for both women and men.

Telehealth

Telehealth – your online Physio now available

Need to see your Physio but unable to get into the practice?

We now have an alternative! We have launched Telehealth, an online Physio service to provide Physiotherapy consultations over video

Onero

Our Clinic is now Licensed to deliver Onero (TM) to our clients with or at risk of osteoporosis. Onero (TM) is appropriate for adults of any age wishing to reduce their risk of osteoporotic fracture.

Onero (TM) is an osteoporosis treatment based on exercise designed specifically to prevent osteoporotic fracture by stimulating bone development and preventing falls in at-risk individuals.

Dry needling

Whether you have back pain, neck pain or other musculoskeletal injuries, dry needling with acupuncture needles can be an effective part of your treatment plan.

Dry needling can help reduce muscle tension and pain levels and trigger a healing response in injured tissues within the body. As opposed to acupuncture, dry needling works directly on the injured body part, not meridian or energy flows.

Bianca Schellander

Physiotherapist

Bianca completed a Bachelor of Health Science at La Trobe University and then went on to complete her Doctor of Physiotherapy at the University of Melbourne. It was her interest in sport that sparked her passion for physiotherapy, in particular musculoskeletal and sporting injuries. Bianca is passionate about promoting active lifestyles and enjoys working alongside her patients to identify and achieve goals. She utilises both a hands on and exercise based approach to treating and managing a range of musculoskeletal conditions.

A little bit about Bianca:

  • Where were you born?

Melbourne

  • What inspired you to become a physio?

I actually originally wanted to be a vet, then decided I didn't want to do that many years at uni (but ended up doing 6 years anyway haha). After that I decided I wanted to get into paramedicine but soon decided against it due to all the media at the time about their poor working conditions. I knew at that point that I wanted to work in healthcare, so I thought that physiotherapy would be ideal!

  • Where you studied, what have you studied?

Bachelor of Health Science (Major Anatomy & Physiology) at LaTrobe, Doctor of Physiotherapy at The University of Melbourne.

  • Areas of special interest/ passion/ expertise

Sporting injuries - in particular lower limb, largely due to the fact that I play football myself! I also enjoy working with post-partum mums and their returning to exercise after birth.

  • Activities you enjoy in your own time

Football (AFL) - both playing and watching, spending time with my pets

  • Family info eg. partner etc

Fiancé Aaron, and our little zoo at home. Hudson and Harvey the golden retrievers, Hiccup and Hazel our two adopted cats, and Hugh our pet rabbit!

  • Where you like to travel

Currently honeymoon planning with Aaron and at the moment our top options are either Mexico, USA (in particular New Orleans and Boston), OR a road trip with the dogs over to WA and back!

  • Favourite food

I'm a huge sweet tooth so anything dessert or anything caramel flavoured! (or a good pasta!).

  • Favourite movie/TV show

I'm also a huge movie buff so this question is virtually impossible for me but top contenders would be: Eddie the Eagle, Crazy Stupid Love, Warrior, Kingsman: The Secret Service. TV shows would be The Office (US), Park and Recreation, Ted Lasso and Sex & The City

  • Favourite song/band

Too many favourite songs to say but favourite artists are Sam Smith, Dan + Shay, The Teskey Brothers and Elton John

Bianca is currently taking new patients and works every day except for Thursdays, with both early and late appointments available. She is currently available for online bookings via www.backinmotion.com.au/melbourne-on-collins#make-a-booking

Photo of Brooke Williams

Brooke Williams

Practice Director and Physiotherapist

Brooke Williams

Practice Director and Physiotherapist

Brooke has over 20 years' experience under her belt and is our clinic Director. She joined the health group in 2007, opening up our CBD clinic and joined the Directorship in 2008. Prior to working at Back In Motion, she has had vast experience in the Public Health care setting as well as in the UK where she lived for 3 years.

A little bit about Brooke:

  • Where were you born?

Geelong, Victoria

  • What inspired you to become a physio?

I injured my neck in Grade 5 and went to the physio who gave me instantaneous relief. I thought he was an absolute rockstar and thought that I’d love to be able to do that.

  • Where you studied, what have you studied?

I studied a Bachelor of Physiotherapy at the University of Melbourne, and then went on to do a Post Graduate Certificate in Continence and Pelvic Floor physiotherapy some years later. I am also an accredited Cancer Rehabilitation Therapist through PINC & STEEL, an ONERO registered physiotherapist and certified GL:AD therapist.

  • Areas of special interest/ passion or expertise

My passion is continence and pelvic floor physiotherapy, including all things pre and post natal (Pelvic girdle pain, pubic symphysis dysfunction for eg.), Incontinence (stress, urge, OAB, bladder/bowel), Chronic pelvic pain including Vulvodynia & Vaginismus, Men's Health including Erectile Dysfunction, Prostatectomy Pre/Rehabilition, Peyronies' Disease management and all other pelvic floor dysfunction conditions for men and women. I also really like the newer area of physio that includes Cancer Rehabilitation including Mastectomy, Gynaecological Cancers, Cording, as well as many others.

Aside from all that, I enjoy helping your regular weekend warrior get back to doing all the things that are important to them

  • Activities you enjoy in your own time

I used to love going to the gym and being fit and active, but fell victim to the “have no time now that I have a child” excuse! So now it’s all about playgrounds, and scooter or bike rides to a local coffee shop with the family.

  • Family info

I have a 5yo son, Benjamin, a 5month old, Thomas, and my husband; Brod.

  • Hobbies/ sports/ things you like to do

I have previously played tennis competitively, albeit not to an amazing standard, I love a good podcast, and curating my spotify playlists

  • Your pets

No pets for me at the moment But think either some chooks or a rabbit would be first on the list. I grew up on a farm, so would love one day to have a horse again.

  • Where you like to travel

I’d love to travel through South America, but feel that’s a way off with a young family. I travelled extensively during my 20s when I lived in the UK for three years, and we have done a bit of SE Asia as a family. I like visiting places with different foods/ cultures and love going somewhere with lots to do. Sadly, I haven’t seen much of Australia, so I think that’s probably top of our list for the next little while.

  • Favourite food

This is a tricky question. Ah, my Mum’s Lasagne? Caramel flavoured anything/ Asian cuisines/ a good Lemon Tart/ I’m a sucker for a Ragu on a menu…

  • Favourite movie/TV Show

Growing up it was “The Man From Snowy River,” but I have really  enjoyed Seven, The Cider House Rules, Atonement, 300… My favourite TV show of all time is ER, and more recently I've absolutely loved The Last Kingdom and have told everyone who has cared to listen, about it!!

  • Favourite song/band

Music is my thing, so favourites are non-existent! I have a significant, and now extremely useless, collection of CDs that I've purchased over the years that span a vast array of genres, and now thanks to streaming services, my curated playlists are like my prized possessions! At a push I’d choose “If I Lose Myself” by Alesso and One Republic.

Brooke is available for appointments Monday - Friday and carries a Senior Physiotherapy fee.
