Clinical exercise is the new craze in Physiotherapy but what exactly is clinical exercise? And why is it so important?
Clinical Exercise is a method of exercise that you will typically see being used for rehabilitation after injury or surgery, but in recent times is being employed by patients who just want to improve posture, conditioning, strength, or just general well-being.
Clinical Exercise Therapy has evolved from traditional Pilates and uses a combination of Pilates based exercises and strength and conditioning principles in order to achieve the individual goals of the patient. With Clinical Exercise our emphasis is on maintaining correct posture, addressing any imbalances in the body, injury prevention, injury rehabilitation and management of chronic pain.
We don’t want you to view Clinical Exercise as ‘exercise’, but rather as a tool to help you work towards your optimal physical health and wellness.
Patients will have an individualised Clinical Exercise program which is tailored to their personal goals and current abilities. The sessions are run by Physiotherapists who will initially perform a one-on-one assessment to determine what the patient needs to be work on to achieve their goals. From here the Physiotherapist will develop a program specifically for that patient and will continue to adapt and progress this program as required.
Many gyms and fitness studios offer Pilates classes, however as part of our holistic treatment plans, Back In Motion Como offers individual and group Clinical Exercise classes facilitated by qualified physiotherapists. This means you will complete a safe and effective program under their guidance.
You will use a combination of specialised Pilates equipment including reformers and trapeze table complimented by floor-based exercises, cable machines and dumbbells depending on your needs. This brings about better targeting and resistance as you progress in your Clinical Exercise program.
Back In Motion Como Clinical Exercise
Your Clinical Exercise program at Back In Motion will feature the following:
- Clinical methodology - an evidence based technique taught by qualified professionals and physios who know the intricate details of your body;
- Individually-tailored exercises - focus on working the areas specific to your needs;
- Attentive, instructional, and focused - correct technique and personal application;
- Specialised Pilates equipment - such as reformers and trapeze table, not just floor mats;
- Range of service options - individuals (one-on-one), tailored semi-private (two to four) and circuit classes (maximum of eight).
Clinical Exercise Assessment
When it comes to your physical health, there is no such thing as a one-size-fits-all approach.
As part of our individually-tailored Clinical Exercise service, you will need to attend a Clinical Exercise assessment during which your physio will establish areas of focus. A real-time ultrasound and training of pelvic floor and abdominal muscles will be performed. We will then build the most suitable program to give the results you’re after.
Our instructors also spend extra time teaching key muscle contraction techniques, which enables you to get more out of every Pilates workout session.
Clinical Exercise Options
Our unique Clinical Exercise service is available in three varieties:
- Individual - one-on-one tailored program with a physio;
- Semi-private - two to four participants for those who have completed a one-on-one program, known as Clinical Exercise™.
- Circuit Group – two to eight participants, known for general health and wellbeing (not individually tailored)
You will learn about dynamic stability that improves the functional strength of your spine and limbs as well as improving posture meaning you will see the results that you want, faster.
