Introduction
“One of the conditions for excellent health and hence good fertility is sufficient exercise.” This quotation is from a European medical book from 1947; 50 years later this fact is still not taken seriously. Despite the fact that we have an original therapeutic method that can treat the kind of infertility caused by a poor condition of the skeletal-muscular apparatus. Its correct name is “Rehabilitation treatment of certain kinds of functional female sterility.”, but everyone uses the name the Mojzis method.
This method comes from the Czech Republic and was developed by rehabilitation nurse Ludmila Mojžíšová in 1945 and since 1991 has been recognised by ministry of health as the number one method in treating of infertility.
What is it?
The Mojzis method is a reflexive method which uses mobilization, soft techniques and passive movement, massages and thermal treatment procedures. The treatment focuses on the backbone, pelvis and muscles of the whole body. The pro-active involvement of the client (or client couple) in the treatment, in terms of cooperation and development of the correct muscular corset, is essential for sucess of the treatment. The rate of success of the treatment with the Mojzis method ranges from 50% to 75%, depending on the diagnose type.
Indication for treatment
- Vertebrogenic disorders (back pain/headache/pain in the leg area)
- Infertility
- Irregular cycle, PMS, polycystic ovaries and endometriosis
- Dysfunction of the pelvic floor muscles
- Dysmenorea, Syspareunia, Coccycodynia
- Impotence
- Children scoliosis
- Certain types of urine retention problems/incontinence, Certain types of constipation.
The principle of therapy
This therapy is based on the principle that there are reflexive relations between the spinal column and the inner organs. If a dysfunction of the spinal column occurs, a dysfunction of the corresponding inner organ also occurs and vice versa. Long-term and excessive irritation of the nerve fibres causes an excessive increase in spasms in the muscles around the vertebrae and the muscles of the pelvic floor.
The therapy is based on intervention within the neuromuscular apparatus of the pelvic floor. The therapy includes certain exercises that are done by the client on her own at home and repeated intervention by a trained physiotherapist. The intervention includes mobilisation and relaxation techniques. Through regular relaxation exercises, the shortened muscles will lengthen, through strength-building exercises, the weakened muscles will firm up and, through mobilisation, the blockages are removed. This leads to elimination of the dysfunction of the spinal column and of the irritation of the inner organs.
The treatment is not painful - the exercises must not be done to a feeling of pain. The exercises and the mobilisation are perceived by most patients as pleasant. The therapy usually lasts 6 months, the physiotherapist's intervention is once a month (one hour) and thus, as far as taking time off work is concerned, this therapy is not demanding.
