Are the kids giving you a headache? Getting a migraine working from home?
The most common contributor to headaches and migraines are from the muscles, joints and tissue at the back of your neck/head. These can be called Cervicogenic headaches, Tension headaches, Cluster headaches or be a type of Migraine. Associated symptoms can be experienced with headaches and migraines including but not limited to: jaw pain and dysfunction, tiredness, vision disturbances, dizziness and nausea. Whilst these symptoms can be very debilitating they often can be treated. Physiotherapists at Back In Motion, Melbourne On Collins are able to assess your pain to determine whether or not these structures are causing your symptoms.
Pain in these structures can be caused from sustained poor postures including forward head posture, looking up or down or a general lack of movement. These postures increase the load on the tissue creating a pain response. Your neck can be a part of your headache despite often having full movement of your head and this is because the level of joint or tissue causing the pain doesn’t usually contribute to much movement (may only be a few degrees which would not be enough to be felt). Whilst there are different triggers to everyone’s headache, most commonly there is an underlying neck dysfunction.
Once an appropriate assessment through questioning has taken place, a practical assessment will follow. This assessment will have a focus on posture, working position, exercise and general activity. Physiotherapists are experts in education on posture, ergonomics (work-place set ups) as well as self-mobilisations and an endless amount of exercises that can be taught over telehealth or in clinic to help in pain reduction.
Back In Motion, Melbourne On Collins is open for face to face consultations or telehealth appointments, depending on your preference.
