Orthotics – who needs them?
Your feet support the weight of your entire body. Changes in your foot structure and function can affect the way you stand and walk. This can then cause a chain reaction that can affect your posture and the way your body moves. Unfavorable foot postures can therefore cause other joints and areas of your body to be overloaded and this may lead to pain and/or injury.
Poor foot mechanics may present in:
- Foot pain
- Arch pain
- Heel pain
- Bunions
- Knee/leg pain
- Hip or back pain
The team at Back In Motion, Melbourne on Collins are skilled in assessing, diagnosing, and treating issues in foot posture and function. We also have access to GaitScan ® assessment technology, which can help to further assess your foot mechanics. This is done by measuring timing sequences, mapping foot pressure and providing an in-depth visual report that you can take home.
Using a thorough assessment in conjunction with GaitScan®, your Back In Motion physiotherapist can then determine whether faulty foot function is the cause of your discomfort and whether custom orthotics will benefit you. If so, the results of your assessment are used to create custom orthotics moulded and manufactured specifically for your needs. Orthotics, when prescribed correctly, can help to correct foot mechanics. This can then help to relieve pain, offload overloaded structures, improve posture and improve your general movement and function.
