Athlete Development at Back In Motion Rosny Park - AKA “BIM Academy”
What is BIM Academy?
A 12-week program with different levels of intervention, ranging from twice per week in a supervised gym environment, to a self-guided program in your own commercial gym. The BIM Academy includes three testing sessions using the VALD assessment technology (before, halfway through, and at the end of the program). This program is determined from the initial testing session and demonstrated in a one-on-one environment, prior to joining classes or resuming in a commercial gym.
Sessions are currently being run on Tuesday and Friday afternoons between 4-5pm by Exercise Physiologist Charles Apted, and Physiotherapist Tim Smith. These classes are capped at 6x athletes per session to ensure each individual gets personalised feedback during the sessions.
The BIM Academy is suitable for any sports, with current athletes within the program competing in soccer, football, basketball, water polo, dancing, cricket and more.
What is VALD assessment technology?
VALD comes from the old Norse word meaning, power, might or authority. Our VALD assessment equipment is state of the art technology. Within our program, we have access to the VALD DynaMo and ForceDecks.
Measuring specific strength of isolated muscles including the force produced through jumping. This data is collected and analysed to determine which areas are requiring further attention in a rehab or gym program. Often the data will assist in checking “blind spots”, which the naked eye cannot determine from a visual assessment alone.
What are the benefits of strength based training in teenagers?
Strength training during adolescence builds more than just muscle. It improves coordination, movement efficiency, resilience to injury, and confidence in sport. When appropriately supervised, it enhances athletic performance while supporting long-term physical development.
Improvement in Performance
A well-structured strength program improves speed, power, agility and endurance. Athletes who develop strength early are better equipped to jump higher, run faster, change direction more efficiently, and tolerate higher training loads in their chosen sport.
A Lifetime Full of Exercise
Introducing teenagers to proper strength training builds confidence in the gym environment and teaches correct technique early. This creates positive habits and reduces the intimidation factor of training later in life — setting them up for lifelong participation in exercise.
