Can Physiotherapy Help My Child?

Published: March 10, 2020

  What is Paediatric Physiotherapy?

Paediatric physiotherapy is concerned with managing infants, children and adolescents through a wide range of conditions affecting their physical development, mobility and capacity to participate in activities of everyday life. Paediatric physiotherapists aim to reduce pain and assist children in achieving their gross motor milestones to aid function throughout growth.

How can we help your child?

Paediatric physiotherapy treat a wide range of conditions throughout the childhood years including:

  • Children with neurological disorders – such as Cerebral palsy, sensory disorders and sensory processing disorders
  • Developmental delay – children who are slow to reach their developmental motor milestones
  • Postural variations – scoliosis, toe walking, knock knees, flat feet, in-toeing
  • Sporting injuries & musculoskeletal pain

What can we do to help?

For each individual, treatment will vary depending on their presenting condition, age, deficits identified during assessment and their discussed treatment goals. As physiotherapists we work with both the child and family to provide optimal care and treatment is specific to each individual. This may include, but is not limited to exercises, neurodevelopment training and gait retraining. Treatments for your child are provided in clinic by our physiotherapists in conjunction with home exercise programs to assist in improving strength, coordination and range of motion.

Our physio Claire has recently began further education and training in paediatric physiotherapy and is available for consultations throughout the week. We also have the capacity to provide NDIS funded services.
