Received a message from us recently mentioning you have not been in for 6 months, so it is a good time to come back in for a review or a Physio check-up? We have started a new initiative which we believe can assist our clients to stay on top of niggles, address any risk factors for falls/injuries and hopefully keep people out of hospital!
Have you ever considered that we care more about our teeth – one specific area of the body, than the rest of our body? We attend dental check-ups every 6-12 months so that something small does not develop into a bigger problem; or hopefully to even have the all clear (but we might not know if our teeth are in good shape or not). Same goes with our car – even if there is not something already going wrong with the car, we have it serviced on a regular basis to help the car last longer and for prevention of a failure out on the road.
Consider this for your body – Physiotherapists are trained to assess range of motion in your joints, muscle strength, balance and fall likelihood, mobility aid suitability and more. We have some new technology (a dynamometer and force plates) which can give us data to compare against each check-up for your strength and balance testing. These are far more accurate when you are not already in pain, so even if you receive the text message and do not have any pain, consider coming in for a Physio check-up to ensure you do not have too large an asymmetry that could lend itself to an injury.
Think of your Physio as someone who is in your corner, wishing you lifelong health and vitality, experienced to help you attain your goals and keep you accountable with your lifestyle factors. We have the tools to help you train for big life goals e.g. to run that marathon, or climb that mountain. Would you not rather touch base with someone in allied health, than go further medically down the line of more medications, injections or surgeries.
The appointment will be booked as a 40 min consultation, as it will have been a while since seeing you the last time. It will be worth mentioning to your Physio if you have had any pain/niggles in the past 6 months so they can direct their assessments to the appropriate risk factors, any near misses with falls and as per above, bring up your goals and exercise training plan. Your Physio might clear you to continue as is, or they might deem it appropriate to have a few follow ups again/recommend partaking in one of our supervised exercise classes.
Think of having regular Physio check-ups as an investment in your lifelong health, and at the end of the day, what is more important than that?
