12-Week Evidence-Based Program for Knee & Hip Osteoarthritis
Back In Motion Clayton is proud to offer GLA:D® Australia, a 12-week education and exercise program for knee and hip osteoarthritis, delivered under the supervision of GLA:D® certified physiotherapists.
This program helps you reduce pain, improve mobility, and regain confidence in daily activities while learning strategies to manage osteoarthritis long-term.
What Is GLA:D®?
GLA:D® (Good Life with Arthritis: Denmark) is an evidence-based physiotherapy program designed for people living with hip or knee osteoarthritis.
It combines:
- Education about osteoarthritis (OA) and joint health
- Supervised neuromuscular exercises to improve muscle control, stability, and function
- Practical strategies to integrate healthy movement into daily life
The program incorporates the latest OA research and feedback from real participants to ensure it is practical, safe, and effective.
GLA:D® Program Structure
- Initial Assessment: Discuss your symptoms, collect functional ability data, and outline your personalized program.
- Education Sessions: Two sessions teaching you about osteoarthritis, joint stability, and strategies to manage symptoms outside the program.
- Exercise Sessions: Group neuromuscular training twice a week for 12 weeks, focusing on improving control and strength of hip and knee joints to reduce pain and improve quality of life.
Who Can Participate in GLA:D®?
The program is suitable for anyone with hip or knee osteoarthritis symptoms, regardless of severity, especially if:
- You have been diagnosed by a healthcare provider with OA
- You experience pain, stiffness, or reduced mobility due to OA
You may not be eligible if:
- Your pain is caused by another condition (tumour, inflammatory joint disease, fracture, soft tissue disorder)
- Other symptoms (like fibromyalgia or chronic generalized pain) are more severe
Benefits of GLA:D®
Research from Denmark shows that participants experience:
- 32% reduction in symptom progression
- Less pain and improved joint function
- Reduced reliance on pain medications
- Improved confidence in daily movement
- High satisfaction and improved quality of life
Why It Matters:
