Published: 01 January 2013 - Clinical Conditions, Injury Treatment and Prevention, Pain Management

What is a groin strain?

The groin refers to the area where the upper thigh meets the pelvis on either side of the pubic area.

It is marked by a fold or depression at the junction of the lower abdomen and the inner part of the thigh.

The groin muscles (also known as adductors) main role is to bring the femur and knee towards the body (adduct the thigh) and are used in all sports, particularly when accelerating or changing direction.
